Looking and Learning

Not many people have the same vision of sound. As soon as you find one, it is my innermost desire to visit them and see how they have developed their work and what secrets I can still learn from them.

Christian tonne from Lamar, Wolf von Langa, Armin Galm, Rune Skramstad From NNNN, simon & Marcel from Varia Instruments we allready visited and this is about the last two.

More trips to Ulf Monig from Dynamikks or Laurin Schaffhausen are planned for the near future..

Our biggest trip so far took us first to the outskirts of Bern. That's where Varia Instrument builds excellent DJ mixers.

It was absolutely impressive to see the dedication with which Marcel and Simon craft their products and the reputation they’ve built. Absolutely top-notch quality, yet never lacking a touch of whimsy. For example, the head of Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan—who also inspired my massive bass horn—is etched into the circuit board.

After a delicious lunch, we enjoyed a thorough guided tour and some great music. It's always so nice to run into old friends.

Specifically, old Altec gear like the 416 or 288 in the 816 and Multicell horn, respectively. All very, very fine and rare stuff. The sound just wants to wrap you in its embrace—amazing!

The Varia turntable weight is already doing its job in the KlangRaum, and such an outstanding mixer will soon be gracing my listening room as well.

We continued on by plane via Zurich to Oslo.

The next day, my son and I were invited to NNNN. I was so happy to finally see Rune again, almost a year after the ETF.

We were able to take a look at the exhibition halls, the latest developments, and some great designs. In fact, we ended up going there twice, because the air traffic controllers went on strike and we ended up spending two extra days in Norway against our will.

So we made the best of it and explored nature, culture, and other exciting things.

Actually, I've never heard Neubauten's “Dub Fire Mix” sound this good.

With many new experiences, potential partnerships, and countless ideas, we left this beautiful country and were happy to be back home.

Thank you so much for your hospitality, and above all, thank you to my son, who, at seven years old, handled this exhausting mix of vacation and business trip so well!
